House Rules

A living social floor works when everyone protects it together. We plan these events so people can move with joy, dignity, and care. These agreements protect the room and make it possible for everyone to fully arrive.

House Rules

These are non-negotiable standards for every ROTP event. If your behavior harms the safety, dignity, or belonging of others, you will be asked to change or leave.

  • No racism
  • No anti-Blackness
  • No homophobia
  • No transphobia
  • No fatphobia
  • No sexism
  • No ageism
  • No violence
  • No non-consensual touching
  • No leering

This is a consent-centered space. If anyone says or does something that makes you feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or disrespected, please tell an ROTP staff member right away. Our team is trained to respond with care and confidentiality. If speaking in person is not comfortable, message us on social media at @rhythm.of.the.people and a team lead will follow up.

Dance Floor Etiquette

  • Respect the DJ: they are guiding the energy of the room
  • Keep phone use minimal. If you film, keep clips short and avoid blocking others
  • Stay aware of the dancers around you and share space with care
  • Respect people's energies and care for your own needs
  • Bring your full joy and let others do the same

Things You Can Do

  • Smile, be welcoming, and make room for people who are new
  • Cheer and celebrate others when they step in, try, or grow
  • Check in with people and help keep the room kind, inviting, and grounded
  • If you are experienced, offer basics generously. If you are newer, ask questions

Partner Dance Etiquette

  • Ask clearly, accept yes or no gracefully - don't pressure anyone
  • Dance to the level of your partner - comfort over complexity
  • Check in on intensity, frame, and closeness while dancing
  • Dance is a conversation, not a monologue. Leave room for the exchange to breathe and flow
  • Own collisions: apologize quickly and adjust appropriately

Cypher Dance Etiquette

  • Enter with intention and leave room for others to contribute
  • Celebrate people without mocking, baiting, or one-upping
  • Do not interrupt someone mid-round unless invited!
  • Protect the center: keep pathways clear and hype with respect
  • Allow cyphers to form and flow naturally

Thank you for helping us keep this space grounded in care, rhythm, and accountability. Every respectful choice you make helps someone else feel welcome enough to dance.
